According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the air quality in Delhi NCR has remained in the “critical” category for the past few days. Average AQI of 471 was recorded on Monday morning as thick smog & haze continues to engulf the city. In order to curtail the pollution levels and remove dust & pollutants from the air, IIT Kanpur has suggested cloud seeding to create ‘artificial rain.’ However, favourable weather conditions are needed and there is still unsurety about how it is going to be implemented on a large scale. Mr. Gopal Rai, environment minister of Delhi had announced that the city government would try to implement cloud seeding as part of its winter action plan to reduce pollution.
